So I am going to attempt a travel blog. I hope to keep you all updated on my journey through Africa. This is both an exciting and scary adventure for me. I am leaving the girls for 21 days and I am leaving my law practice for 21 days!!! Also I just checked and at least 3 of the bush camps have no internet so I am really checking out. For those of you who know me know that even when I take vacation I seem to work. This is also the farthest and most remote place I have ever traveled. I did go to Bali a few years ago but somehow that didn't seem as far and it wasn't for as long...maybe because I didn't have to limit my luggage or buy a whole different wardrobe to make the journey. For this trip I had to buy "safari" clothes. That means no black, no dark blue, no bright colors, no heels, and I have to pack in a soft sided duffel bag that weighs less than 30 pounds or so. All of my luggage including my carry on can only weigh a total of 50 pounds. When I spend a weekend in Vegas my bag is almost always at the max because you never know what cute top and heels you might want for a night out?? Ladies you know what I am talking about! But on this trip I need to have a good amount reserved for camera equipment. I purchased a special backpack to carry my camera equipment. I have always loved photography. This trip has kicked my butt into gear to get me to take that photography class that I have always said I would take. I researched and finally found the one class that I thought fit my needs at the Denver School of Photography. Is this where I #DenverSchoolofPhotography It was perfect. A weekend intensive to teach me how to use my DSLR camera. I could finally get off auto mode. One and done! I could take that class and I would be ready to take on Africa. Not so fast... The class was AMAZING. Jeffrey Rupp and the Denver School of Photography was AMAZING. What I learned was my mirrorless camera wouldn't get the job done. What I learned is I wanted to learn more. I was on a quest to learn as much as I possibly could about photography and still am. So after that weekend class I sold my mirrorless DSLR camera and bought a new camera that I could continue to expand my knowledge with. One and done not so fast. I signed up for not one but two more classes with Denver School of Photography. I just finished those classes and at the end of Photography 2 I told Jeffery I wasn't ready to be on my own yet. I still had too much to learn. I took Photoshop 1. I now understand how to make a good picture great. But I learned in that class I also have so much to learn. I will be back to the Denver School of Photography. As I take pictures in Africa I will have Jeffrey in my head with the settings doing my calculations, so much math! As I edit I will hear Patricia telling me what to do in photoshop. I will do my best to post some of my photos on this blog as I go. I also learned that you can rent lenses that you cannot afford to take those amazing pictures. Because really it is not the camera it is the lens! So my lens was supposed to arrive today but it should be here Monday. My tripod/monopod is arriving Sunday and by the time I leave I will look like a professional photographer even if my photos do not :-). Getting ready for this trip after being sick, while trying to get billing done, after a sewage leak, dealing with each new crisis Joey or Sammie threw at me, after my washer broke and stayed broken for 3 weeks, and getting ready for Christmas is a little overwhelming to say the least!!! Sue and I have been planning for it for well over a year and it is hard to believe that we leave in 6 days. Sue and I met in 1994 while I was backpacking through Greece just prior to starting my summer law school course in Dublin. I was by myself which was so far out of my comfort zone. She was with her sister and another friend I believe. We met at the Pink Palace in Corfu. She said I was friendly and I talked to her. I don't remember but I don't think so. I am pretty shy in new situations -- YES I AM...not so much in the courtroom or when you know me. But that summer I was pretty adventurous so maybe I did. We managed to stay in touch the old fashioned way since then. We have seen each other over the years. Celebrated a few birthdays together too. Most notably our 40th in Vail (her birthday is the day before mine) and our 45th in Europe, and now our 50th in Africa! So I will share some photos of Sue and I. As you can see we will keep each other entertained for the 21 days.
So keep your eye on this page for updates to my travel blog...pictures...tips for Africa and just stuff. I have included a link to our itinerary below.
